Classical Family Holiday Performance at La Mirada Theatre
La Mirada~The Moscow Ballet is set to perform its Great Russian Nutcracker at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts on December 19, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY!
The world-renowned Moscow Ballet is celebrating its 18th annual tour of the Nutcracker tour by performing in over 50 cities across the U.S. and Canada, including here in La Mirada.
The show features spectacular sets and beautifully costumed Russian dancers, a holiday treat for the whole family, with whimsical and imaginative storytelling blended with the richness of Russian classical dance.
Choreographer Anatoli Emelianov has been praised by critics for his unique setting of Act II in the "Land of Peace and Harmony." To convey his message of peace, Emelianov incorporates an ethereal dove that escorts Masha and the Prince to a land where there is no war and suffering.
Set against Valentin Fedorov's spectacular scenic design, with dancing, larger-than-life puppets and hand-painted backdrops of unicorns, exotic birds and animals, Moscow Ballet's presentation is a visual delight.
This year's tour stars the world's premiere ballet couple, Cristina and Alexei Terentiev and the cast features luminaries of the Perm, Vaganova, Moscow State Academic Choreographic and Kiev schools.

Set in turn-of-the-century New England, this is the story of Jerusha Abbot, a talented orphan sent to a prestigious college by an anonymous benefactor she nicknames Daddy Long Legs.
Revealed through witty, wistful letters, her journey to self-sufficiency, education, and romance chronicles the emergence of a delightfully independent American woman.

La Mirada Symphony Launches New Season
La Mirada~ La Mirada Symphony's new season begins tonight with the New Beginnings concert; the first concert of the season, to be held at 8:00 p.m. at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Guest Conductor Alan Mautner will bring the sounds of Mozart, Brahms, and Mendelssohn through the hall to please the audience.
Thi Nguyen, considered to be the leading young Vietnamese violinist of his generation, will enhance Brahm's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. A great start to an exciting season!
LM Theatre Hosts Tribute Friday

La Mirada~Two of the hottest tribute bands will appear at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts for "Tribute Friday", tonight. Show starts at 8 PM, with happy hour beginning at 6:00 PM.
Based in Southern California, the critically acclaimed tribute show, Bella Donna, re-creates Stevie Nicks in concert. The band, named after the artist's double-platinum album, portrays the singer and her music (solo and with Fleetwood Mac), in a stunningly accurate depiction.
Also, appearing will be Desperado, The Premier Eagles Tribute, consists of five talented members who have set out to resurrect the melody, harmony and musicianship of Southern California's own chart-topping Eagles.

“Wife” Begins Limited Engagement at La Mirada Theatre

La Mirada~La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts& McCoy Rigby Entertainment are thrilled to present Marilu Henner, who will be reprising her critically-acclaimed Broadway performance as Lee Green and Caroline Aaron will star as Marjorie Taub in a newly-revised version of Charles Busch's hilarious Broadway hit, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, directed by Jeff Maynard (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee); opening this Friday, October 1st and running through Sunday, October 17 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Award-winning hit at the Manhattan Theatre Club and on Broadway, the story concerns the wife of a philanthropic allergist, who is engulfed in a life crisis of Medea like proportions. Her children are grown, her beloved therapist died recently and her mother grates on her nerves. She tries to lose herself in a world of art galleries, foreign films and avant-garde theatre, but finds she is barely able to rouse herself from her sofa. Marjorie’s spirits suddenly soar when Lee Green played by Henner (reprising her acclaimed Broadway performance), a fascinating and somewhat mysterious friend from her childhood, appears on her doorstep.

Artist to Demonstrate Oil Portrait Painting
La Mirada~The public is invited to attend a free oil portrait painting demonstration by local artist and teacher Veronica Kortz on September 13th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Arts Colony of La Mirada meeting, La Mirada Resource Center, 13710 La Mirada Blvd. Ms. Kortz will discuss the pros and cons of working from photos versus live models.

La Mirada~On Saturday, August 7th, Phantom Projects of La Mirada presents a performance to feature 10 of Southern California’s Most Talented Young Performers in an Evening of Original Theatre, Dance, Music, Film, and more.
After nearly 100 applications and interviews, 10 young performers have been selected for The 2010 Young Artist Project at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The annual event brings together seasoned young artists between the ages of 16 and 23 to merge their unique talents-whether writing, directing, acting, singing, dancing, etc.-in a collaborative effort, developing one-acts, musical numbers, film, and other performance pieces.
The twist? The group has just 12 days to completely create, rehearse, and build the production.
