La Mirada~A teenage boy was being held in connection with the deadly stabbing of a 49-year-old woman in her La Mirada home last week, officials said Thursday.

The suspect, whose identity was withheld due to his age, was detained shortly after the fatal stabbing of Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez on the morning of June 4, according to Lt. Daniel Vizcarra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. He declined to discuss the relationship between the suspect and victim.

Rodriguez was found stabbed to death just after 9:10 a.m. at her home in the 13300 block of Marlette Drive, according to Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner and sheriff’s officials. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple stab wounds. No injuries to anyone else were reported in connection with the incident.

The young suspect was taken into custody at another location away from the crime scene, Vizcarra said. No further details were available.

The victim lived at the home with a teenage son who graduated from high school last month, neighbors said.

Detectives had presented their findings to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of prosecution, Vizcarra said. It was not clear Thursday whether a case had been filed in juvenile court.
