3rd Annual La Mirada Kiwanis Rubber Duck Race Community Fundraiser

La Mirada~The 3rd Annual "Going Quackers for Kids" Rubber Duck Race hosted by La Mirada Kiwanis will be held on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 at the lake at La Mirada Regional Park at noon; after the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at 7:00 a.m. and the City of La Mirada Easter Egg Hunt at 8:00 a.m.

Any group or organization can participate and earn 50% back from the number of ducks they sell at $5.00 each.

There is no fee to participate and no minimum required to sell. Group profits are determined by how many ducks are sold.

Absolutely H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!   The cast is a charming selection of young actors who do an excellent job of bringing their characters to life. 

Talk about packed with talent, wow!  I'll tell you this much, actors Jason Graae, Melvin Abston,, Shannon Mari  Mills, Cassie Silva, Laura Griffen, Tom Zohar, Brett Ryback, Daniel Tatar and Lana McKissack, well , they can carry a note from La Mirada to the East Coast.  I was extremely impressed.

BREAKING SPORTS NEWS-LYNCH RELEASED BY LA MIRADA

La Mirada~As the accolades are still coming in about La Mirada football co-coach Ollie Lynch's incredible accomplishments this past year with co-coach Mike Moschetti, he was let go by La Mirada about a week ago.

Lynch and Moschetti were named the Dream team co-coaches of the year by the Press-Telegram. Click here for story.

It is still not clear about the reasoning behind the decision. Contacted by phone, Lynch told the La Mirada Blog, "I was totally caught off guard, totally surprised. Right now,  I want to concentrate on the track season, which started about a week ago, We got some great kids in the program."

Lynch is the head coach for La Mirada Track and Field in his seventh season.

"I am going to step back, finish this year and season, and then take it from there."

Windermere Ranch was also the social center of the area. This label depicts the entrance ...to the ranch where Neff Park and its three historic buildings still remain today.

La Mirada Boys Take to the Road

Los Alamitos~The CIF Southern Section playoff pairings were announced today and the La Mirada Boys will hit the road, the long road-85 miles to be exact.

In a Division IIIAA game this Wednesday, the Matadores (13-14, 7-5)  will play Granite Hills High School, located in the city of Apple Valley on the outskirts of Victorville. The school, part of the Apple Valley Unified School District opened in 1999.

The Cougars (15-11, 7-5) compete in the Desert Sky League.

Matadore head coach Larry Kaupang is scheduled to be on the "La Mirada Blog Radio Show w/ Tony Aiello", to talk about the match-up, and the season thus far, The show will air Monday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. on www.adviceradio.com, and available on podcast thereafter.

La Mirada~In front of a packed Senior Night crowd, La Mirada boys basketball beat Norwalk Friday night, 62-55, sweeping the season series and sending the Mats into the playoffs as one of the Suburban League representatives.

La Mirada~A car ended up on the sidewalk in a traffic mishap this afternoon in La Mirada.

The accident happened about 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Valley View and Adoree St.

Traffic was tied up as investigators wrapped up the scene.

La Mirada~It was a game full of drama but somebody had to lose, as the Cerritos Dons beat La Mirada last night in 3 OT's, 77-75.

JobsWith a game remaining , the victory keeps the Dons within a game of Suburban League leader, Mayfair.

Earlier, Norwalk beat Artesia, 66-54, keeping the Pioneers one game behind the Matadores for the final spot.

Play Adaption of Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye to Coincide With Black History Month Celebrations at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts-2010 Marks the 40th Anniversary of the Bool's Publication

La Mirada~How does an 11 year old African-American girl define beauty when she hates the color of her skin and has only blonde-hair, blue-eyed dolls to play with? Set against the backdrop of 1940s Ohio, The Bluest Eye explores the toll that a legacy of racism has taken on a community, a family, and Pecola Breedlove, the central character in this play adaptation based on the novel by Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author Toni Morrison. The production, directed by 2009 Lucille Lortel Award Nominee Janet Miller (Off-Broadway, Marvlelous Wonderettes) will be presented by Phantom Projects Theatre Group on February 25, 2010 at 10AM and 7PM at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Phantom Projects is a proud member of the LA Stage Alliance.

Mayfair Beats Artesia; Mats Hold Last Spot

Lakewood~Mayfair High beat Artesia tonight in a cross-town rivalry game, 83-71.

The loss by Artesia gives La Mirada sole possesion of the fourth and final Suburban League playoff spot with two games to go.

La Mirada will travel to Cerritos, this Tuesday, February 9th and then wrap up the regular season against Norwalk the following Friday, February 12th, at home.

Since its loss to La Mirada on January 22nd, Norwalk has won four in a row, including a one-point thriller over first place Mayfair.
