La Mirada 42 Norwalk 33: The Lancers looked to be headed for a league championship, as they jumped out to a 26-14 halftime lead. Then, to start the third quarter, QB Daniel Poncedeleon scrambled and ran 80 yards for a TD. That would be the spark that La Mirada needed, as they would roll up 28 points in the second half, at the same time holding the vaunted Lancer offense to just seven points. The Lancers, on their next possession would fumble, and the Matadores would take over on the Lancer 25 yard line. It took one play for the Matadores to answer and take the lead when Poncedeleon found WR Julian Matta in the End Zone. The Lancers would answer back and take their final lead of the game. In the fourthJobs quarter, the Matadores had two impressive drives with the first one being capped by a TD run, by do-everything FB/LB JT Torres. Then, to seal the game, Poncedeleon hit a wide open TE Keith Coty in the left corner of the end zone. The Lancers inability to throw the ball, and the fact that they are one-dimensional hurt them. Their coach's inability to manage the game hurt them; on a key fourth down when they went for it and it cost them the game. Overall, a great game and the better team won, but bad news for the Lancers. They were exposed in the passing game, and for the second time in three weeks their pass defense gave up 28 points, and they only scored seven points on offense. Not a receipt for a championship of any kind.

Week 9 Preview

Bellflower vs. La Mirada: The Buccaneers will look to seal their playoff goals this week when they take on the Matadores. The Matadores just have to win out and they get the league title. The Buccaneers are led by QB Jeremy Allen and TB Benny Perez, and they are hoping that their defense can slow down the balance of the Matadore offense. Unfortunately for the Bucs, the Matadores play better at home than on the road.

Norwalk vs. Artesia: The last time the Lancers played a close game; they came out and destroyed their next opponent. This game will be no different as they are eager to get back in the win column. The Pioneers are dangerous because they have athletes at all the skill positions and they can score from any where on the field and with each week QB Montez Hunter has become more comfortable. I look for the Lancer offense to overwhelm the Pioneers.

John Glenn vs. Cerritos: The Dons have virtually eliminated themselves from playoff contention. There is a lot of bad blood between these two teams with John Glenn's Head Coach Anthony Wilson being a former Cerritos coach and the kids at Cerritos are still mad that he left; and they want nothing more than to beat him. Last week every thing that could go wrong went wrong for the Dons against Bellflower. This will be a week in which they try and redeem themselves. The Eagles, if they win out, have shot at the playoffs; and they know they need to put the Dons away early, because if they don't, then they will be in trouble.

Final Thoughts: This will be a big week for all of the teams, as playoff seeding is still up in the air. The Matadores are in the driver seat and they know it; and they can't afford any mental let downs. The Lancers and Monsoons will be battling next week for the #2 spot in league. The Eagles, Buccaneers, Pioneers are all fighting for the final spot. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
