Bellflower vs. Victor Valley: The Buccaneers look to right the ship in this match up against the visiting Jackrabbits. The one thing in the Buccaneers favor; they had a game already and won't have any first game jitters. This will be Victor Valley's first game. The game will be played Thursday Night @ 7pm.

Prediction: Bellflower 21 Victor Valley 7

Cerritos vs. El Rancho: This has been billed as the battle of the Dons, with El Rancho being the dominant Don, so to speak. El Rancho is led by Josh Perea who is a second generation QB for the Dons.  Last week El Rancho looked impressive as they beat West Covina 28-17. Look for the El Rancho Dons rushing attack to pummel Cerritos. The game will be at 7:00pm at Hanford Rants Stadium.

El Rancho 35 Cerritos 12

Mayfair vs. Los Alamitos: Well, the Monsoons will be playing one of the toughest area teams. The visiting Griffins are loaded on the defensive side of the ball. Look for the Monsoons to be shut out in this one and fall to 0-2. However the Monsoons always load up their schedule so that they are ready for the Suburban League and the playoffs. This was evident when the Monsoons reached the finals last year. The game is Friday @ 7pm.

Los Alamitos 35 Mayfair 0

Artesia @ Millikan: The Host Rams won a shoot-out this past week against a quality Gahr team. They are led by the multi-talented QB/WR/RB Alden Darby. He is one of the Southlands most underrated players. This will be a very intriguing game for Darby and Anthony Johnson of Artesia. They were both teammates in Norwalk Pop Warner, where their team went to regional's before losing. This will definitely be a shoot out with both teams running versions of the spread offense. The game is Friday @ 7pm.

Millikan 42 Artesia 38

La Mirada vs. La Habra: The visiting Highlanders have become the areas premier program with tons of players who are on the college recruiter's radar. This year is no different. They have monstrous TB Josh Quezada, and they are led on defense by hard-hitting SS Dominic Sierra, who has verbally committed to Hawaii. The Matadores show last Friday that they are not door MATS. They proved they can play with the big programs. I look for an upset here as QB Daniel Poncedeleon is healthy this week and comes back to lead the Mats to a victory. The game will be played at Goodman Stadium @ 7pm

La Mirada 20 La Habra 18

Norwalk @ Los Amigos: This will be a snooze fest. Look for the double-wing attack of the Norwalk Lancers led by Adrian Gonzales- run through, around, and over Los Amigos. The Lancers beat up on Los Amigos last season 58-14. I look for more of the same this time around. The game is Friday @ 7pm.

Norwalk 56 Los Amigos 12

Glenn @ Pioneer: The Eagles travel to Pioneer to take on the Titans. The Eagles look to keep their winning ways rolling against Pioneer. The hosts Titans are led by senior QB Steven Del Villar and Sophomore TB Tony Botello. They are big on the line. Look for them to try and establish the run against an Eagles team that gave up 150 yards on the ground to Santa Ana Valley's running backs, last game. The Eagles look to air it out and Escobar will look to connect with targets Green, and Greenway. The team that can control the time of possession wins this game. The game is Friday @ 7pm.

Glenn 35 Pioneer 21

Final Thoughts: This Friday will be a day of joy for all the players that are participating in football games. But for tens of thousands of others they are reminded that this Friday is September 11th, a day that lives in history. So to all the participants, coaches, spectators, parents and fans that are attending games this Friday; all across the southland and those across the country. During the National Anthem before each game, please remember those who have given their lives for this country, so we can enjoy the freedom of attending and playing these football games. Good luck this week to all of the players. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
