Victor Valley 20 Bellflower 0: The host Buccaneers never got themselves on track and their offense couldn’t help the defense out as they where just on the field way to long.

Los Alamitos 31 Mayfair 0: The Griffins of Los Alamitos are no push-over. They are a team brimming with Division I prospects and they showed why they are a perennial Pac-5 contender. The Monsoons played hard and as usual Coach Mike Fitch is not worried at all about being 0-2. He knows that his ultra toughpre-league schedule will prepare them for league.

El Rancho 21 Cerritos 14: The Dons of Cerritos still have not found the victory column, but they are not a horrible team this year. They played hard in this one, with Aaron Francis and Derek Jones leading the way on the ground. Unfortunately, they extended a streak no athlete ever wants to be a part of, they are winless in their last 14 tries.

Millikan 42 Artesia 13: Alden Darby played the role of decoy as the Rams offense was efficient and scored it seemed, at will, as they were led by talented athlete Silver Vaifanua. The Pioneers were playing an extremely tough opponent in the Rams, in this one. The Pioneers QB Anthony Johnson connected with Earnest Randall from 22 yards out early, but not much else went Artesia’s way.

Week 2 Preview:

Bellflower @ Paramount: The Buccaneers travel this week into hostile territory, as they travel to Paramount High School. The Pirates are no joke, and are a team built on a big physical Line. Their LT Matua Brown is one of the area’s best junior prospects; all 6’5’’ 300 lbs. of him. I look for Bellflower to get crushed again and fall to 0-3

Prediction: Paramount 35 Bellflower 6

Cerritos @ Gahr: This is a fierce city rivalry where neither team wants to lose, but for the last four years Gahr has owned this rivalry, and I don’t see new QB Casey Nielsen letting that change on his watch. I look for Cerritos to put up a tough fight, but lose late.

Gahr 42 Cerritos 21

Mayfair vs. Lakewood: The battle for the Milk Cup will be not much of a battle at all this season, as the Lancers of Lakewood are led by QB Jesse Scroggins. The Monsoons are in for another battle and another loss. Scroggins tosses a few TD’s and the Lancers coast to a win.

Lakewood 42 Mayfair 10

Artesia has a BYE this week

La Mirada @ California: The Matadors look to get back in the win column as they travel Thursday to Cal High on Thursday @ 7pm. I look for the connection of Matta & Poncedeleon to hook up a few times as the Mats offense gets back on track and starts rolling.

La Mirada 31      California 15

Norwalk vs. Pacifica: Finally we will find out if Norwalk’s offense this season can over- power a quality opponent. They take on Pacifica of Garden Grove who has a big physical offensive line and play good football. I look for this one to be close, but with the Lancers prevailing.

Norwalk 30 Pacifica 24

Glenn @ Hacienda Heights Wilson: The Eagles are looking to continue their winning ways as they try to get a little revenge, after being beat by the Wildcats last season at home. They are looking for the right balance on offense as they blend the talents of several players QB Jose Escobar, TB Brandon Kelly, and ATH D.J. Bernard. I look for the Eagles to stop the spread option attack of the Wildcats and win their third in a row.

Final Thoughts: This is a pivotal time of the season. All of the teams in the Suburban league are trying to win games and stay healthy as league is only two weeks away. This should be a great weekend of football, and I look for new stars to emerge from every team as coaches try to settle on who are their go-to guys.  Good luck this week to all of the players. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
