There was a shooting yesterday morning along the North Fork Coyote Bike Trail, just outside the La Mirada city limits leaving one unidentified man dead.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. just south of Rosecrans Avenue, in Santa Fe Springs.
Whittier Police responded with assistance from multiple agencies including but not limited to: the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles County Fire, Santa Fe Springs Fire, and The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.
The situation was unclear until a reader reported on Twitter after we posted about the incident from the scene. The source tweeted, "County fire reports paramedics are treating a reported gunshot victim on the bike trail. A sheriff's air unit is overhead assisting deputies and officers from WPD in the search for two male suspects in dark clothing. Suspects are believed to be from the local homeless population."
At 4:00 p.m. Whittier Police provided a statement on social media providing more details, "On February 25th, 2023, at 1138 hours, Whittier Police Officers were dispatched to a shots fired call in the riverbed of the 13600 block of Rosecrans Ave. in the City of Santa Fe Springs. On arrival, officers located a male adult suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Whittier Police Detectives are on scene investigating."
