This performance will take you back in time as if you were truly a guest rocking and rolling in the audience that dreadful February night. The set was simple enough to let you know where you were in the play, yet not overdone as to where it took away from those performing.

They played Holly's top hits such as "Peggy Sue”, "That'll Be the Day”, "Not Fade Away”, and "Maybe Baby", along with many others. During the scene of the final performance at the Surf Ballroom, I went from toe tapping and singing along, to stillness and sadness as I was shocked to hear the news of the plane crash and deaths as reported over the radio. I felt really sad. Guess that goes to show you that these actors are really great actors.  Under the direction of Glen Casale, well, they did exactly what they were supposed to do-to make the audience feel as if they were actually there.

Al and Pat Balen of Yorba Linda were in the audience tonight for this performance. I asked them if they recalled the news of the plane crash coming over the airwaves back in 1959, and they most certainly did.  At the time, Al was 21 and Pat was 19 yrs of age.  Al said when he heard the news on his car radio (just as it was played during this performance) he went home to tell his newlywed Pat of the tragedy. They went on to say that for a moment, and just a moment, they felt exactly how they felt the day they heard the news 51 years ago.

I loved the performance. I encourage everyone to go. Buddy Holly was robbed of life, and now I understand. Thank you LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT for bringing this production to Southern California.
