La Mirada based Phantom Projects Theatre Group is bringing The Giver to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts February 21-22, 2024. Based on one of the most influential novels for pre-teens and teens, this Newbery Award-Winning dystopian novel by Lois Lowry tells the powerful story of an 11-year-old-boy who experiences something incredible and undertakes something impossible.

Performances take place February 21 at 9:30am and 12:30pm, and Thursday February 22 at 9:30am, 12:30pm and 7pm. The production is adapted by Eric Coble and directed by Steve Cisneros. Thanks to funding from the City of La Mirada, all students who live in or attend school in La Mirada can receive free tickets for the 7pm performance. Tickets for all other students are just $15.00.

ABOUT THE SHOW: Eleven-year-old Jonas seems to live in a perfect world. There is no war, or fear, or pain. But there are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12, he is chosen for special training to receive and keep the memories of the community. This moving adaptation reveals the power of taking control of one’s own destiny.

This is Phantom Projects’ biggest production to date, featuring a creative team of nearly 40. Ryan Bohmholdt (Jonas), Scott A. Now celebrating its 27th Anniversary, Phantom Projects Theatre Group has consistently written and produced shows seeking to provide a platform for interactive education. Phantom Projects now offers a variety of entertainment including; Plays, Musicals, Touring Teen Productions, Field-Trip Shows (bringing books to life onstage), Princess Events and hosting outside acts and groups.

Phantom Projects Theatre Group co-founder and show director Steve Cisneros created the company while a teenager, specifically because at the time of inception, there were virtually no theatre organizations geared specifically to inspiring and educating people his own age, through the eyes of peers. In 2022, Phantom Projects opened up a new home theatre in La Habra. The 132-seat venue, The Phantom Projects Theatre at La Habra Depot is the home to a mainstage series, family series, concerts and more.
