A new group has formed in La Mirada to assist with veteran-based events and to provide other services to members of the military in the community.

The La Mirada Veterans Coordinating Council, which recently held it's first meeting March 3rd at city hall, is a partnership between the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9148 and the City of La Mirada.

Representatives on the new committee will consist of five La Mirada veteran residents, one VFW Post 9148 board member and one city administration staff member.

Their primary objective is to help coordinate and assist with the city's three annual veterans events-the Memorial Day Service at Olive Lawn Memorial Park in May and the Veterans Day Service at the civic center plaza and the Salute to Veterans at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, both in November.

Another objective for the early stages of the group is to identify all active duty, reservists and National Guard community members and their families in La Mirada as they move forward.

Look for more information in the weeks and months ahead.
