Haile also continued to hit line drives all over the field by providing run-scoring singles in the third and the fifth innings, plating senior firstbaseman Daniel Poncedeleon (hard single to rightfield) on the first one for a 6-0 lead and Kyle Harper (line single to left) for an 8-0 advantage.  Senior catcher Ray Chacon had led off the fifth by getting hit by a pitch and his pinch-runner, senior Cory Hightower, scored on Harper's single and subsequent misplay by the leftfielder to make it 7-0.

Against a righthanded submarine pitcher, lefthanded batter Nicko Lancaster made an instant statement that the Matadores were going to come out hungry and aggressive, hammering the first pitch to leftfield.  Lefty-swinging Karl Perez, a senior centerfielder, also jumped on the first pitch an out later to bring in the junior rightfielder Lancaster (who had advanced to second on a very high throw down to first by the catcher trying to pick him off).

After senior designated hitter Nick Mandry was hit by a pitch, senior leftfielder Justin Torres brought in Perez on a slow-roller to third that he easily beat out with his future Colorado Buffalo legs and Chacon contributed a RBI in his fifth straight at-bat with a groundout to thirdbase to score Mandry for a 3-0 lead.

Harper led off the second as the third lefthanded batter in a row to jump on Simi Valley's sidearm hurler with a first-pitch single, a rocket to rightfield.  After Harper notched a rare stolen base, Lancaster waited until a 1-0 count this time to hit another bullet to the outfield to score Harper and then junior shortstop Andres Rodriguez roped one up the middle to bring in Lancaster (who advanced to second on a balk) for a 5-0 margin.

The next inning, the beleaguered submarine hurler was removed, but not after La Mirada's lefthanded batters went 4-for-4 (on five pitches) and a walk.  However, the Matadores kept up the heat almost the entire game, failing to put up a crooked number in only the fourth inning.

The final run came in the sixth when Rodriguez was again hit by a pitch (he is going to lead the state in this category at this pace), senior pinch-hitter Mason Peacock fought back nicely from way behind in the count to coax a base on balls, junior pinch-hitter Nick Mata stroked a hard single to load the bases and Torres lifted a sacrifice fly to right.

For the second straight contest, the Matadores also played great defensively with only one wind-blown error to account for.  Petersen's arm was the main weapon in the first inning with his only two strikeouts and Perez once again made a fine-running catch in center in the third.  The first of three doubleplays turned by the infield occurred in the third with Poncedeleon digging that one to complete it.

In the sixth, Harper made one of the best plays of the season by snaring a hot smash at thirdbase that spun him around, but he was able to brace himself and gun the runner out with his gifted arm that only the day before pitched six shutout innings in league play
