State of the City

The La Mirada Chamber of Commerce will host the State of the City on Friday, February 16 at the La Mirada Holiday Inn.

Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. with the luncheon and program beginning at noon.

The event will feature an address by La Mirada Mayor Anthony Otero and also will include speakers from the Sheriff's Station and other local officials.

Individual tickets are $59.00 through February 8th and $70.00 thereafter. A table of eight is $499.00.

Former Scoutmaster appointed to Public Safety and Traffic Commission

The city council recently appointed Moses Covarrubias to the city's Public Safety and Traffic Commission.

A resident since 1998, Covarrubias enjoyed being involved in youth sports and is currently affiliated with and supports local Boy Scout Troop 438, the Impulse Youth Arts Organization, Pacific Crest Youth Arts, the Multiple Sclerosis Association and the March of Dimes.

He told us, "I am honored and humbled to be appointed to the La Mirada Public and Traffic Commission. I look forward to serving the community."

Meet the Author

La Mirada City Councilman Ed Eng will be part of the La Mirada Library's "Meet the Author" series on Saturday, January 21st from 12:30-3:30 p.m. 

Mr. Eng recently published the book, The Accidental Mayor, "A collection of stories from the side streets of Chinatown to the main street of city hall,"  It is currently a best-seller on Amazon. 

Refreshments will be served.

New pickleball courts

LA County Parks & Recreation recently installed new pickleball courts at La Mirada Regional Park. 

Often described as a combination of tennis, ping-pong and badminton, pickleball grew nearly 40 percent between 2019 and 2021, making it America's fastest-growing sport.

Farmers Market changes location

The La Mirada Farmers Market has changed locations. It is now located in the west civic center parking lot, adjacent to the library.

The hours remain the same-every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

The market features a variety of items including fresh produce, packaged artisan and ready-to-eat specialty foods, and locally made crafts and gifts.

Spring registration for LMGSA softball

Registration closes for the upcoming La Mirada Girls Softball Association season on January 26. 

Divisions include Tiny Tee ($50), Tee Ball 6u ($125), 8-14u ($190). high school 14 & older ($190). There is also a mandatory fundraiser fee of $50 and a  payment plan is available.

Big Lots closes

The Big Lots store at 13942 Imperial Highway in the Imperial Plaza has closed its doors. The company recently closed several stores in Southern California. Deal Hunterz recently opened a few doors down at 13910 Imperial Highway.
