New Condos/Townhomes/Duplexes Coming to LM?

A public hearing regarding a new condominium project on La Mirada Boulevard presented by the Planning Department was continued on a 5-0 vote by the City Council as residents and council members expressed concerns about traffic, land use, and other impacts the project may have.

The Olson Company plans on building 33 luxury condos/townhomes on 2.72 acres located at 12000 La Mirada Boulevard.

The plan calls for 30 duplexes and three detached units to be constructed and are expected to fetch from $600,000-700,000 apiece.

The public hearing will continue November 24th at city hall at 6:30 p.m. with the developer expected to address all concerns.

A Slice Above

Gondola Pizza hosted a 45-year anniversary celebration at the restaurant in La Mirada on November 2nd.

Long time La Mirada residents remember Gondola moved from its original unit at the shopping center at Imperial and Santa Gertrudes to its current location a few doors down when a fire destroyed it in the 1970’s.

EXCLUSIVE: The La Mirada Blog has learned the Gondola owners are planning on opening a café adjacent to the current Gondola. The plan is to purchase the unit next door and offer gelato and coffee among other treats at the new café.

New Toys to Play With

The transformation continues on the new UFC Gym in La Mirada now occupying the former Toys R Us location, General Manager Matt Hamel told us.

Currently, the construction of an outdoor “boot camp” is ongoing where the former loading dock was, according to Hamel.

The 46,000 square feet state-of-the-art facility is expected to open by the end of the year.

That Was Fast

Inter-Continental Hotels Group (IHG), the Holiday Inn parent organization is parting ways with its Sporting News Grill (SNG) concept across the country. The announcement comes shortly after the largest unit on the west coast opened at the La Mirada hotel earlier this year.

La Mirada Holiday Inn General Manager Richard Choi told me the La Mirada restaurant has reached an agreement with IHG to keep it open as a SNG until April. At that point, Choi said, the La Mirada hotel would take over the restaurant and operate it independently.
