A boy died and a man suffered wounds when gunfire erupted in the parking lot of a Walmart in La Habra on Friday night, authorities said.

The deadly shooting took place about 8:35 p.m. in the parking lot at the southeast corner of Imperial Highway and Beach Boulevard, according to the La Habra Police Department.

Officers encountered the victims while responding to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire, police said in a written statement.

“Life-saving efforts were made by the responding officers and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, however, the male juvenile succumbed to his injury,” the statement said. His age was not available.

The adult victim was rushed to an area hospital, officials said. His condition was not clear.

No information regarding a suspect description or motive was available.

Authorities were yet to release the identity of the victims.
