A train apparently collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue at Marquardt Avenue early this morning, although not officially confirmed.

The incident was first reported to us from one of our Instagram followers at 2:29 a.m.

The crossing has been rated by the California Public Utilities Commission as the most hazardous grade crossing in California.

The Rosecrans Avenue bridge, currently under construction, will elevate the road over the tracks once completed in 2025.

While we have no official confirmation from any agency, evidence at the scene certainly depicts a train vs.vehicle incident. Remnants of the vehicle, almost unrecognizable, were scattered on the tracks west of the intersection.

We have no information on whether the vehicle was occupied nor we do we have any information on whether there were any casualties suffered from this incident. As soon as we have further information we will post it here.

UPDATE 10/5/23: We have learned there was a lone victim in the crash. Although not publicly identified yet, we did observe a public memorial at the site. We posted a photo from that memorial on our X feed here:

Also, Ruby Gonzalez of the Whittier Daily news provided some missing details here (you may hit paywall).
