He also coached youth softball including Lil’ Miss Softball (which became La Mirada Girls’ Softball Association) and all-star teams, winter teams and introduced numerous players to “travel ball” for a total of over 40 years of coaching.
Over the years, many La Mirada High School players received scholarships playing under Trujillo.
In a 2012 article with us, he said all La Mirada players must maintain a 3.0 GPA (grade point average) or better to play on the team.
He says he hopes he has taught his players’ life lessons such as showing up every day on time and contributing for the overall success of the team and to have fun.
Trujillo told us, “It’s been very rewarding, especially the life-long friendships I get to enjoy now.”
