La Mirada 30 Bellflower 3: I never, ever talk about the unsung heroes; the guys who play in the trenches. In this game, they became the changing point. Especially on offense for the Matadores; as they opened holes for senior running backs JT Torres, and Matthew Haltom. They both found the end zone for three scores- combined. The play of the night came from offensive linemen Isaaq Luatua, when he took Bellflower LB Marquis Patton for a ride 25 yards down field and pan caked him on a play. The Buccaneers came out in unconventional sets, and were unable to move the ball against the Matadores defense. The Matadores blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a TD.

Week 10 Preview

Bellflower vs. John Glenn: This is it. This is the game everyone should watch this week, as this game will determine the final spot in the playoffs; with the winner grabbing the final spot. The Eagles are looking to reach the playoffs for the first time in seven years. The Buccaneers are only a few years removed from the playoffs. I think that trick plays will be abundant in this game, as both sides want to do whatever it takes to win the game. I look for the physical running games for both teams to take center stage. I look for RB Brandon Kelly to outshine his counterparts for Bellflower.

Norwalk vs. Mayfair: This is going to be a game among two teams that are battling for the second playoff spot. Unfortunately for the Monsoons, I think that Norwalk is just too good for them this year and that they will get trampled by the host Lancers. I don't see Mayfair's young defense being able to spot the double-wing of Norwalk. I look for Norwalk to wear down the Monsoons. I just hope that Norwalk can learn to defend the pass soon, or else they will see an early exit in the playoffs.

La Mirada vs. Artesia: The Matadores are going to be the Suburban League champions for the first time since 2001. They have outworked everyone they have played this year, and they are capitalizing on any mistakes being made by the other team. They are the team to beat in our league and are going to close out the Pioneers season. I look for La Mirada to play conservative, and win a good one.

Final Thoughts: This will be a big week for a few teams with the Eagles and the Buccaneers fighting for the Final spot. The Monsoons and the Lancers are fighting for the number two seed in the Playoffs. If the Eagles pull out the victory, it will be the first time in 20 years that the NLMUSD will be represented by all of its schools. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
