La Mirada 42 Mayfair 12: The Matadores showed the balance that is necessary to be a league champion, as they where led on the ground by FB JT Torres, and TB Max Gama. They are steady in the passing attack led by QB Daniel Poncedeleon. The kid was precise, and his accuracy was on display, going 19 for 24 for 173 yards. He looks like a QB that will be playing on Saturday afternoons next year. The Monsoons did not look like a team that was riding a 52-game league winning streak. In the end, minus all of the miscues that La Mirada had, they still were able to maintain their composure and win for the first time against Mayfair since 2001. The Matadores defense started the second half with an interception by SS Ralph Gramajo who returned it for a TD.

Week 8 Preview

Norwalk vs. La Mirada: This game will decide the league championship, a game with two teams that are extremely different. Norwalk wants to just run the ball and overwhelm teams with its running game. However it's pass defense is a huge liability and unfortunately for them, the Matadores throw the ball extremely well and will put the game on the arm of QB Daniel Poncedeleon. This game will be a dog-fight, with a lot points being scored. I still look for the Matadores to be the team to beat in this game.

La Mirada 35 Norwalk 14

Mayfair vs. Artesia: The Monsoons are going to try to get back in the win column when they visit the Pioneers this week. The Pioneers have tremendous athletes but I don't think they have the depth to battle with the Monsoons. I look for the Monsoons to run the ball a lot, and wear down the Pioneers. This one will be close though, as the Monsoons have been turnover prone lately.

Mayfair 35 Artesia 18

Bellflower vs. Cerritos: This will be a huge game for both teams. The team that wins this game will be in the driver seat to take the fourth and final playoff spot. The Buccaneers hope that they can outlast the Dons. Their offense will try and wear down the Dons, who are very thin and have little depth. I see that this one coming down to who has the ball last.

Cerritos 28 Bellflower 24

Final Thoughts: The Matadores are in control of their destiny as they get ready to play Norwalk in the final match-up for the league championship. The Monsoons will make the playoffs, but where is up to them, as they still must play the Lancers. I have no idea who will be the fourth seed for the playoffs, as every one of the bottom four teams have a shot. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
