Norwalk 28 Mayfair 7: The Lancers took care of business and looked great as they rolled over the Monsoons. They had three running backs go for nearly a 100 yards each, and showed that their stable of backs was greater than that of the Monsoons. Big burly back Elijhaa Penny had two TD's on the ground. The Lancers are looking for another deep run into the playoffs as they finish league as the number two seed.

Bellflower 24 John Glenn 21: What a game this one turned into. The game started when KR Dejon Bernard returned the opening kick-off for 64 yards. On the next play, QB Jose Escobar found Bernard in the left flat; and he raced 36 yards in for a TD. The Buccaneers answered back. The Eagles offense looked out of sync most of the night, and the defense was without two of its defensive stalwarts in MLB Niua Niumataevalu & OLB/C Christian Banuelos. The Buccaneers took advantage of two late turnovers; the latter of the two leading to the game winning field goal.

1st Round Playoff Preview:

Bellflower @ Garden Grove: The Buccaneers travel to play the number one seed in the Division Garden Grove, who is 10-0. The Argonauts of Garden Grove are very physical on Defense and will look to establish their presence early. I look for this to be a run-away game for the Garden Grove Argonauts. I feel the Buccaneers are lucky to be in the playoffs.

Mayfair @ Segerstrom:  The Monsoons will be looking to contain the Segerstrom Jaguars playmakers RB Matt Navarro, and QB Brian Murrieta. They are both dangerous players and they are what make the Jaguars offense go. The Monsoons will try and get their offense on track early, so that they can hopefully get a lead and get out of the first round.

Norwalk vs. Rancho Alamitos: The Vaqueros of Rancho Alamitos are led by do-everything QB Mike Frank. These two teams have a common opponent in Cerritos High School. The Lancers dominated the Dons of Cerritos in a way that the Vaqueros couldn't. I look for the double-wing attack to take the Lancers through, over, and around the Vaqueros.

La Mirada vs. Santa Ana: This is going to be a great game, with the Matadores balanced attack going against the running attack of the Saints of Santa Ana. I look for QB Daniel Poncedeleon to pace his team and put this game away early. The Saints are led on offense by QB Chris Avila who has passed for 12 TD's this season, and RB Frank Nerida who has 18 TD's this season. I think that the stout defense of the Matadores will shut down the Saints attack.

Final Thoughts: This is it. Records don't matter and who you played isn't important. This is the playoffs and if you lose, you start training for next season. I think all of the SuburbanLeague teams will get out of the first round, and that the Lancers and Matadores are on a collision course to meet again in the playoffs. I will make my prediction for the Division champion: La Mirada Matadores over the Norwalk Lancers with the game played at Cerritos College and it becomes a community event. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
