Paramount 35 Bellflower 14: The Buccaneers who have been having a rough time lately, actually showed a little glimmer of hope. They played a team that was better than them and they competed, in getting their first points of the season. QB Jeremy Allen tossed to 2 TD’s. He is a 3-year starter for the Buccaneers. I look for him to build on the success from this game.

Lakewood 35 Mayfair 7: For the second week in a row, the Monsoons played a team chalked full of Division I athletes. This time it was a huge regional rivalry, and I thought that they just might surprise all of us, and make it close. That wasn’t the case, and they lost the Milk Bucket again this year. Coach Fitch still feels that playing this tough schedule will help them later on.

Gahr 41 Cerritos 0: The Dons still have the streak going, and they are really getting tired of the streak, but it is still lingering over their head. They got manhandled and brutalized by a quick-strike and physical Gahr team. This marked the fifth year in a row that the Dons have not beaten the Gladiators. The Dons Offense was non-existent.

Week 3 Preview:

Bellflower vs. Troy: The Buccaneers don’t look to be able to stop the running game of the Warriors. The Warriors are coming off a loss to a very good team in Corona Del Mar. I expect the Buccaneers to get another loss.

Cerritos vs. Rancho Alamitos: If the Dons have any chance of winning a game this season, it’s this game. The visiting Vaqueros are 2-0, but I think that the Dons can hand them their first lost. I look for a big game from Aaron Francis as he helps lead the Dons into the win column.

Mayfair @ Kennedy: The Monsoons look to get into the win column this week, as they play a formidable opponent in Kennedy. The Monsoons look to get their running game on track as they re-establish themselves as a power to be reckoned with in the Suburban League. This will be a close one, but the Monsoons pull it out.

Artesia vs. Gahr: The Pioneers after a week off, are back on the field this week as they take on district rival Gahr, at home. I look for this to be an offensive show, with the team having the ball last, winning the game. Neither of these teams is built to run out the clock so I look for their offenses to score early and often; but the Pioneers lose in this shoot-out.

La Mirada vs. La Serna: The Matadors look to take down their second Del Rio League opponent in as many weeks when the Lancers of La Serna visit. This is a rivalry game with many of the kids attending these schools living in the same blocks and district lines dividing streets. I look for this to be a smash mouth football game. The Matadors will be able to control the clock and utilize RB’s Haltom, Gama and FB Torres. Look for the Mats to dominate as they prepare for league.

Norwalk vs. Paramount: The Lancers have shown they can play with anybody and that their double-wing attack is almost unstoppable. Their defense is finding its rhythm and they are starting to impose their will on people. I look for the Lancers to have all they can handle with this Paramount team. But, in the end, the purple and gold pull it out. Look for the play action pass of QB Dominique Diaz to help lead them to a win.

Glenn @ La Quinta: The Eagles are trying to right the ship after a disappointing loss to the Wildcats of H.H. Wilson. They will look to really show that last week was a fluke, by taking on an opponent this week that they should beat handily. The Eagles however can not afford to look ahead to next weeks first league game. I expect the Eagles to dominate the Aztecs of La Quinta in this one. Their running game should get back on track.

Final Thoughts: This is the last week to get ready before league starts. I look for the contenders to establish themselves and the pretenders to stay in the loss column. Good luck this week to all of the players. I wish you all much success; and stay injury free.
