UPDATE: 04/01/14 06:30-Valerie Alvarado pitched a no-hitter as the Mats continued their winning ways by beating Marina 1-0 as pool play continued. La Mirada will play Edison in the semifinals Saturday April 5th at 3:00 p.m.

Irvine~The La Mirada High Softball team won two games in pool play action Saturday at the Woodbridge Tournament at Bill Barber Park.

In the first game, The Lady Mats beat Fountain Valley 2-1. Starting pitcher Val Alvarado had eight strikeouts and Jaslin Rivas drove in both runs including the game-winning homer in the sixth inning.

In the second game, the Lady Mats won 3-2 over Capistrano Valley. All three runs for La Mirada (7-5, 2-0), were scored in the first inning behind back-to-back-to-back RBI’s by Rain Vega, Stephanie Baro and Jessica Gutierrez.

Pool play continues tomorrow (Monday) as the Lady Mats go up against Marina High beginning at 5:30 p.m. The finals of the tournament will take place Saturday, April 5th.

League play continues Wednesday for La Mirada as they travel to Artesia with game time at 3:00 p.m.
