Art Show opens November 14th at the Activity Center

All are invited to attend the “Mirrors of Your Mind” Art Show presented by the Arts Colony of La Mirada.

The art exhibit will be open to the public starting on Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the La Mirada Activity Center. An award reception will conclude the art show on Saturday, November 20 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The La Mirada Activity Center is located at 13810 La Mirada Boulevard.

Kelly elected chair of Pitkin Republicans

Jon Kelly, who grew up in La Mirada,has just been elected chair of the Pitkin County Republicans of Aspen, CO.

Kelly is a 1995 graduate of Stanford University in economics and political science. He has lived in Aspen for eight years and is the father of three children: a daughter who graduated in 2022 from Aspen High School, and twin boys who are juniors at the school.

According to a Pitkin GOP news release, Kelly has had a business career in insurance technology. He co-founded the first venture-backed startup to sell insurance online in 1998 and most recently served as CEO of Kelly Klee Inc., an online insurance brokerage, the release says.

Halloween Happenings

The City invites family and friends to Movies in the Park Saturday, October 22 at Windermere Park, located 15261 Cheshire Street. The spooky movie of the night will be The Addams Family.

This is a free event and there will be Halloween activities and crafts for kids beginning at 5 p.m. The movie begins at dusk. Attendees are reminded to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks. Halloween costumes are highly encouraged.

Haunted Jail

The Norwalk Sheriff's Station will host its annual Haunted Jail Saturday, October 22 from 12:00-5:00 p.m.

Free fun for the whole family includes a safety expo and a scary tour of the haunted lockup.

The Norwalk Sheriff’s station is located at 12235 Civic Center Plaza in Norwalk.

Residential Display

Check out the elaborate Halloween display, “The Curse of the Raven” this season beginning October 22 and running through October 31.

We will release the La Mirada location here on Thursday, October 20.

The display will be open from 7:00-10:00 p.m. and residents are also encouraged to bring canned foods for an organized food drive benefiting the Good Sam Food Pantry and the Interfaith Food Center.

Halloweenfest

The City of La Mirada’s annual Halloweenfest will be held Monday, October 31 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the historic Neff Estate. This family friendly event is great for all ages, including pets!

Participants will enjoy a haunted maze, costume contests, carnival-like games, crafts, and a trick or treat area. Additionally, pumpkins will be available for families to decorate.

Local Church Expecting 10,000 Visitors for Night of Terror Event

Freedom City Church will host Night Of Terror at its 99-year-old church building located in Historic Uptown Whittier. The maze and production will run from October 28 to October 31.

Formerly held at its Santa Fe Springs location at Imperial Highway and Marquardt Avenue, Freedom's annual maze and live production will showcase the seven major ways that people die in Los Angeles and the reality of life after death.

"Night of Terror continues to bring an unequaled level of excitement to our community," said Pastor Jason Lozano, lead pastor of Freedom City Church. "We are thrilled to be able to host Night of Terror in the heart of Uptown Whittier. Last year we drew people from Los Angeles and Orange County, and even as far as San Diego and Nevada."

Night of Terror will run from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31 with multiple showings each night. The event will be held at Freedom City Church located at 6355 Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier, Ca 90601.
