Crosswalk Pedestrian Safety Operation

Last week, La Mirada used funding provided by a Justice Assistance Grant to conduct a Crosswalk Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation.

The operation involved deputies dressed in plain clothes crossing the street at marked crosswalks on Biola Ave. and Adelfa Dr. Other traffic enforcement deputies stopped and cited motorists who failed to yield to the pedestrians.

The goal of these operations is to educate the public and to reduce the number of accidents between vehicles and pedestrians.

La Mirada~"The Tony Aiello Show", an Internet radio program, that debuted in 2000, is returning to www.adviceradio.com Monday, January 25th, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. PT.

Instead of just a portion of the program being about La Mirada, the entire one-hour live program will be dedicated to La Mirada news and events. There will be interviews with La Mirada guests, call-ins, anything, everything La Mirada.

The show will run for four weeks, and we will evaluate from there. We are looking for advertisiers, supporters, and sponsors to keep the show going.

How can I fill an hour with La Mirada stuff? Who knows. We'll see how long it lasts. It should make for an interesting hour.

A whole hour of live La Mirada talk coming Monday, September 15th, and every Monday  at 6:00 P.M., right before "Wise Guys" on AdviceRadio.com.

Call 800-405-6425 to get on-the-air.

"No entertainer can move and excite an audience like Tony Orlando. Tony brings to the stage warmth and exhilarating energy that electrifies an audience."

La Mirada~Tony Orlando is coming to La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts on May 15th, with two shows.

His new show  "Let's Salute America" is inspired by America's love of the Yellow Ribbon as a symbol of freedom, hope, homecomings and of course, Tony's number one recording of 1973, "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Ole Oak Tree." It was number one for that year, became Orlando's theme song and grew into an American anthem of hope, homecoming, reunion and renewal.

Orlando, a 70's icon, joined Dawn in 1971 and a produced a string of hits and television appearances; including their own variety show, "The Tony Orlando and Dawn Variety Hour", that replaced "The Sonny and Cher Show" when the latter ended its run in the summer of 1974. The show was cancelled in December of 1976 and seemed to mark the end of the variety hour, as a staple, on prime-time television.

His salute in La Mirada is a guaranteed crowd pleaser and includes: "Yellow Ribbon," a tribute to George M. Cohan's "Yankee Doodle Dandy," a rendition of Toby Keith's "American (Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue)," Neil Diamond's "America" and Ray Charles' "America The Beautiful." Tony also performs his other big hits such as "Candida," "Knock Three Times" and "Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose."

Performances are scheduled for Saturday, May 15th, at 2:00 pm and 8:00 PM. For tickets call (562) 944-9801 or visit http://www.lamiradatheatre.com. Individual tickets are $70, $55, and $45.

Residents/Businesses Urged to Sign Up For Emergency Alerts

With the renewed threat of rainstorms, Los Angeles County officials today urged residents and businesses to sign up for emergency alerts by registering their cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses on the Alert.lacounty.gov website.

The County’s emergency mass notification system, called Alert LA County, has the capability to use phone, text and e-mail messages to alert residents and businesses when there is an emergency situation in their area and advises of needed actions, like evacuations.

The system was activated 25 times between Jan. 18 – Jan. 22 due to rain, flooding and mudslides, with some warnings going to as few as 34 people and some to as many as 513. All landlines are already included in the system, but people must register their cell phone numbers, Voice over IP phone numbers, and e-mail addresses. This information can be added
on the Alert.lacounty.gov website.
