The third of five Upright Cabaret Shows at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is this Sunday, April 18th, at 8 PM. The lobby of the theatre is transformed into a night-club setting. The following is a review of the last show which was in February.

Have you been fortunate enough to experience a Cabaret Show? How about a cabaret with class acts? A cabaret with an ambiance so ideal, that the very moment you step through the doors you realize that you've taken in a deep breath of relaxation?

Well, I have, and it's all thanks to, The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.  Yes, the theatre house. Our very own theatre house here in the beautiful city of La Mirada.

Thanks to the braincases who decide what's hot and what's not, you too can enjoy a cabaret without having to fly to some fancy city. I am telling you, it was surprisingly great! I say surprisingly because, for one, you would not recognize the place. The detailed care and attention given was absolutely to the tee.

The usual lobby with the sofas and armchairs and coffee tables were gone. The room was no longer set as to provide sectional seating for patrons attending. No more separatism. All guests sit as one, surrounding the stage. Small café tables/chairs, stand alone seats, tall bar tables/chairs, long leather sofas, love seats, and BIG comfy let-me-hug-you-as-you-settle-in armchairs.

Dark linen, tea light candles, and softly lit den room lamps and a thermostat set just right (at least for me it was) as to where I was neither cold nor hot. As Goldilocks would say, "and this seat is juuuuuuust right."

Having settled in, my husband and I ordered a couple of drinks so that we could rate the bartender. My husband had a very cold Coors Light and I decided to go with one of the signature drinks which would be the Pomegranate Martini-both were perfect.  Our rating for their bartender was two thumbs up with the wink of an eye. No worries in the area of thirst satisfaction, as well as no worries for satisfying a hunger pang, in case you didn't have a chance to have dinner before heading out to the show. A small menu of Tapas style eats was provided for a very fare price.

I have to mention one other thing in relation to the setting, and that would be the polished cutlery and sparkling glassware. Yes, I take the time to critique in this area and I must say, once again, I was impressed.

The talent was great. I laughed, I cried, then laughed some more. If you're looking for a hip, big-city lounge setting, with great entertainment to back it up, I encourage you to attend the next cabaret, which is this Sunday.

Something hip, close to home, affordable, respectful, and by all means...FUN!  Right here, In La Mirada, at our very own lil 'ol Theatre for the Performing Arts.  You gotta go!
