Norwalk~Gird your loins and prepare for a bumpy night of zany opera, off-beat orchestra, precision chorus, competitive soloists and savory surprises, as the entire Cerritos College Music Department celebrates the near-genius of the Bach family secret, composer P.D.Q. Bach, in an evening of music, mayhem and madness.
Dust off your best Baroque attire and revel in a program of works by this unique and forgotten master, dredged up from the backwater of obscurity by the ubiquitous "Professor" Peter Schickele and presented in fully-staged splendor at Burnight Center on the evening of April 11th, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cerritos College Burnight Center Theatre, 11110 Alondra Blvd, Norwalk, CA 90650
Hosted by soprano Ann Gresham and featuring the festival chorus, orchestra and soloists under the direction of Dr. David Betancourt and Anna De Michele, the P.D.Q. Bach Festival will include appearances by the April Fools Madrigal Singers, the Sudden Wind Brass Ensemble and dueling pianists Dr. Christine Lopez and Gregory Schreiner in "Concerto for Two Pianos vs. Orchestra." Zesty-clean young soloists will also appear in performances of the half-act opera "The Stoned Guest." P.D.Q.'s appetizing oratorio, "The Seasonings (S. 1/2 teasp.)" will round out the bill of fare. Let the great burlap curtain rise again.
All proceeds will benefit the Music Department's Scott Henderson Memorial Awards and Scholarship Fund.
